Ethics

We are regularly asked about our environmental and charitable policies and about those of our partners

We believe that there is a massive opportunity for the technology sector to improve the way we manage the Earth’s natural resources. Our sustainability policy is guided by science. We believe that overcoming society’s biggest sustainability challenges will require working at the intersection of technology and the natural and social sciences.

We reuse and recycle everything from energy to materials. Efficiency is a key component in our current and future IT infrastructure.

We encourage our partners, employees and customers to operate with the same high standards and performance. Partnering with like-minded companies to meet mutual goals.

Our four focus areas are: Ecosystems, Carbon, Water and Waste. We support each of our focus areas with five strategic pillars. These are:

1. Employees

We recognise that our employees are the most important asset and resource in advancing innovation and will create new opportunities for them to contribute to our efforts.

2. Operations

We will take responsibility for our carbon, water, waste, and land footprints across the way our products and services are sourced, manufactured, operated, and managed at end-of-life, including our supply chain.

3. Products and services

We will offer new technology and services driven by data, AI, and digital technology to power environmental sustainability.

4. Customers and partners

We will help our customers and partners around the world reduce their carbon, water, waste, and land footprints through our learnings, technology, and services.

5. Policy

We will support new public policy initiatives to accelerate carbon, water, waste, and ecosystems opportunities.

In addition, in keeping with the benign nature of technology services, Assembly follows the general practices outlined below:

  • We recycle as much material as possible from the office. We use as much recycled packaging material as possible. In our view, using a new jiffy bag (when we open a whole stack of jiffy bags and boxes every week) seems wasteful on many levels. New packaging requires the consumption of both energy and raw materials, and if we don’t re-use it, in general it has to go to landfill, consuming even more energy to get it to a landfill site. Landfill locations are becoming harder to find and are rendered toxic for many years, quite apart from their aesthetic impact on the landscape. In this modern age of electronic communication and the possibility for a truly paperless office, we recycle as much paper and card as we can from all our sites. We also refill our printer ink cartridges wherever we can.
  • We aim to cycle, walk or use public transport where practical.
  • We use energy-saving lighting wherever we can.
  • We apply all of the relevant environmental legislation with regard to the disposal of hardware, cabling, plastics and other environmentally harmful materials.

Charitable causes

We support several charities, which we are philosophically aligned with. We support them actively, either by being directly involved in their work, and/or making a contribution to them annually, which of course is derived from our profits. Sometimes, it’s more appropriate for us to ask for a customer to donate to one of the charities that we support, than it is to bill them. These are the charities concerned, and the links are direct to their donation pages:

Recycle (Bikes to Africa)

Bikes change lives. Most Africans lack access to any form of transport and spend hours every day walking to collect clean water, firewood or to reach school or work. Not only does this take a toll on their health and time spent working, it often means children miss school altogether.
