Assembly Managed Services can’t stress enough how important it is to be safe in this digital world. Near enough everyone uses the Internet in their day to day life and that’s why it’s invaluable to know how to minimise the risk of you being a hackers next victim.

Here are a few tips to really minimise the risk of getting hacked.

Avoid accessing personal or financial data via public Wi-Fi

It may seem obvious, but many people make purchases or check their bank accounts on public Wi-Fi. Connecting to a secure network is the best way to keep your information safe.

Be careful about opening attachments and links

If you’re unsure of the source or something doesn’t feel right don’t click the link or open the attachment. The most common scenario is that, once you realise you’ve been tricked into providing log-in credentials to a fake site, it’s too late.

Create complex passwords

It’s simple, the more guessable your password is the less secure your information is going to be. We would recommend you use one of the many secure password generator tools that are online, for example LastPass.

Avoid using the correct answer for security questions

If you post information about yourself that can be answered by simple Internet searches, for example, your dog’s name or where you grew up, hackers can use this information to try to break into your accounts. Instead, make the answers incorrect or use long strings of numbers and letters as answers so that they cannot be guessed easily.

Turn off anything you don’t need

Hackers use certain features on your phone to access information, location and connection details. Turning off these features when you don’t need them will help to protect your privacy.
